Castleford Roll Call
Our first semester ended on December 19th, and we are now on Christmas vacation until January 5, 2009. This is the first time we have been able to complete the first semester prior to the Christmas break, and we feel that the students really benefited by allowing them to have completion of the semester tasks now, and begin the new courses in January.
Good news has come to us in several grant notices. First the grant submitted by Sue Ambrose and Karen Garrison to enhance our accelerated reading software was approved in the amount of $2,000.00. Also we received word from First Federal that they are awarding our school on behalf of our Parent Teacher Youth Organization $1,000.00 towards the football field bleacher project. Additionally, the Castleford Men's Club and Idaho Power are also helping fund a light retrofit project in our gymnasium which will lead to better lighting and annual cost savings to the school. Michelle Dekryft has completed our annual book fair project and RIF (reading is fundamental) program for the fall semester. The school benefitted by receiving over $350.00 worth of books for the school library, and all students in grades K-6 received a book of their choice.
Winter weather does sometimes cause concern about the possibility of closing school for several reasons. If in fact the decision to not hold school is made the information will be provided to KMVT and KEZJ by 6 am. Another source of information would be the school employees who will be informed shortly after 6 am.
We want our patrons to feel to know we want to know what they are thinking in regards to what we are doing well, and if there are concerns they have they would like us to address. Generally, communication can start with the students teacher to solve most all problems. However, I am always available and want to know what we can do to better serve our patrons. The Castleford School Board does meet the third Tuesday of every month and I would be happy to share the procedure that needs to be followed in order to have a item placed on the agenda.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
